#storybehindtheart
In the summer 1962, Warhol started to work with silkscreens and said that "it didnt matter that I knew how to paint anymore", it's the selection of images that matters. His friend and mentor Henri Geldzahler made this comment about his work and he was spot on.
Warhol approach will indeed influence conceptual and appropriation artists such as Barbara Kruger. For the 200th anniversary of Bastille day (July 14, 89) she created this specific print meaning "Knowledge is power". She said"I'm an artist who works with pictures and words." and "a lot of people are like me in that they have relatively short attention spans. So I shoot for the window of opportunity."The comment of Richard Prince comes from an interview that he made of her for a magazine .They are both appropriation artists and their work raise the question of "can a reproduction be considered art?". The #picturegeneration refers to their group and the show about them at the MET.
